A Reflection on My Microteaching

Ruba’s Microteaching
I do not think it is difficult to reflect on my microteaching after dr. Annous’s class discussion. I believe that I had a successful experience. I started by informing my students that the lesson is going to be on “Nouns” and warmed-them-up by a catchy song I uploaded from You Tube. The objectives of my lesson plan were clear, I checked students’ comprehension, and helped them in their inquiries. I was confident, assertive, and had a good body language and voice. I treated my Grade 3 students in a motherly way and tried to make them feel comfortable and to have a safe classroom environment. I used my time effectively and was exactly within time limit. I played games with my students as part of my developmental activities. The material used was authentic that I made from scratch. I was organized and moved from one activity to another smoothly and professionally. I combined both the direct and the indirect methods of teaching in my instruction. On the other hand, I had two drawbacks. The first is that I should have used the board when students gave me different kinds of nouns. The second is my inability to explain to a student the difference between a noun and an adjective. I believe I did a great job. I am proud of myself and hope that dr. Annous has enjoyed my microteaching.

  1. I enjoyed the way Ruba presented her lesson for these reasons. I think that she meet the objective’s of her lesson as students were able to identify the three types of nouns. The video she used was catchy and garbed students’ attention but I think, it might have been more effective if the students took part in it like singing the song or role play it. The game was suitable for grade three and she tried to elicit words from the student. She gave feedback and corrected students’ error, for example when she used the chart on board one student placed store under things not places Ruba draw the students’ attention saying “book, cloud, tree are thing but school, store, kitchen are places” thus eliciting and restating the rule. She was confident and used eye contact. She used pair work and involved the whole class.

  2. Thanks May for your reflection on my microteaching. You commented on some of the aspects of my instruction and left others. You should be more deep in your reflection and show the importance of using some of my activities and the mmethodology of my instruction.

  3. Ruba, your lesson was entertaining. Your approach was mainly student-centered, yet blended with direct instruction. I appreciated your professional appearance, tone of voice, eye contact, and how friendly yet firm you were with your students. Using the video of a song and its lyrics was a good hook. The song had a catchy beat that would get students of grade 3 to actually listen, enjoy, and maybe move to the rhythm. Following the video, was the question "what is a noun", to state the lesson's tile and at the same time pre-assessing the student's knowledge was a smooth start to your lesson. Tackling student's questions with patient's and professionalism was the key factor in you lesson. Most importantly, the variety that you used in the 20min session like the board, video/song, and the noun game made you session fun for adults and students. Good job Ruba!
